 | | | | | | | | | | apparently, since the release of the new star trek movie, there has been a greatly increased amount of drama in the various ST comms. all of which i've missed thus far. this one is particularly golden: (beware, may insight rage toward the entire male race) click menow, i'll be honest i haven't watched an episode of star trek since i was about 6 and don't really plan on doing so at any point in the future. i was attracted to the fandom thanks to the new movie. i could really give a shit about the history of the fandom or the plot developments of the original franchise. but that's not my point, the OP is obviously either way out of touch with the rest of LJ and/or isn't a member of any other fandom-based comm. it been quite a while since the star trek franchise produced a movie or a decent series which attracted new fans. thus those trekkies dwelling in their parents' basements haven't experienced a surge in new fans since god knows when and wouldn't have since the internet wasn't even commonly used at that time. he shouldn't think his fandom so special, IT HAPPENS IN ALL WELL ESTABLISHED FANDOMS. it's called supply and demand. and quite frankly i do not appreciate icons of the 2009 cast being compare to the shit that encompasses twatlight. i love the new cast and i will admit that their looks are half of what draws me to ST. the point that the most recent movie had no story line is only half true but that is irrelevant considering the CRAP story lines in the not only the original series but in all the subsequent spin-offs and movies. star trek is not known for it's deep and meaningful plots, it was a tv show meant to mirror a western, set in space. it's fluff when you get down to it, like most tv shows are. of course they occasionally had lessons entwined in a episode, something which addressed the social issues of the time but that was about it. it was a sci-fi adventure series, not homer's oddessy. fanboys need to get over themselves and admit that they are not the only gender in the fandom and not be so hypocritical.

i have two: "life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences but rather it's a tapestry of events that culminate in an exquisite, sublime plan." - serendipity and... "whenever i get gloomy with the state of the world, i think about the arrivals gate at heathrow airport. general opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but i don't see that. it seems to me that love is everywhere. often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. when the plans hit the twin towers, as far as i know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. if you look for it, i've got a sneaking suspicion love actually is all around." - love actually
